Iraq is like a black hole sucking in trouble from every neighbouring country, according to a former commander of British troops in the region.
“We clearly had no plan when we invaded Iraq and relied on military muscle to impose freedom and democracy,” he said. “British commanders, like their US allies, had no idea of the complexities of Iraq and its people.”
